The Buddies Club was formed last year in September 2016 by Liam Osborne, class of 2018.

“I saw it was a need at East to have this club, because special education students are excluded from activities,” said Osborne.

This club brings awareness to East students with disabilities and to build friendships between our special education and general education. It gives everyone an opportunity to make friends and meet new people.

“Kids meet up with students who are different but once they meet, they realize they aren’t that different, you realize how similar you really are,” says Osborne.

Buddies Club has over 35 people. Not only does this club develop friendships, but it helps to be more social and gain patience.

“This club has probably been the most positive activity I’ve ever been involved in at East,” said Jessica Gerrond, sign language teacher. “It’s important that we bring awareness to the diverse student population here at East and this club allows for that.”

If you like the idea of helping out and getting to know people, get involved and join Buddies Club. This experience enables students to have fun and be themselves with their new buddy.

“This club affects many people to have an open mind, be patient and just have a good time,” said Litsi Hernandez and Martin Lozano-Dominguez, class of 2020.

Students meet every Tuesday in room 116 from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
