East High School ranks as lowest performing

According to U.S News the average High School graduation rate in the U.S is 84%. The graduation at East High School is 67%, that is 17% less than the National average.

 

  Last October, Rockford East High School was ranked “lowest performing,” due to the low graduation rate and poor test scores in 2018.  According to the Illinois State Board of Education, schools with graduation rates of “67 percent or less,” are put in the lowest performing category. East High School’s graduation rate is 62 percent, according to Jim Parker, the principal of East.

    ESSA, also known as the Every Student Succeeds Act, provides “assistance and resources” to students. East has received support through “School Improvement Grants,” which has a base amount of $100,000.  The 

   Currently, Parker has two main areas of concern: standardized test scores and the graduation rate. He plans on funding programs based on the standardized tests SAT and ACT within the school. 

   The first PSAT of the 2019-2020 school year was held on October 16.
