In the past few weeks East High’s athletics have seen great accomplishments and a lot of successes in many of the featured winter sports ranging from wrestling, boys swim and both boys and girls basketball.
According to Jim Parker, the principal, over the weekend wrestling placed fourth out of nine teams in the conference meet, with Jack Seacrist placing first in the 138lb weight class, Sam Young, Kevin Peirce and Zander Guttridge placing second in their weight classes. Marshawn Spate, Eh Ta Sor and Joseph Pineda got third in their classes, and Andrew Cisneros took fourth and Jaden Davis came in at sixth.
“[We were] very impressive. Harlem was a big win. We’re very young, [and] I am very proud,” said Jim Parker, Principal, when asked his opinion on how the wrestling season is going so far.
At their meet in Beloit Wi, Freshman swimmer Camden Taylor was able to break the 100 free record last set in 1962.
After losing to Boylan, East Basketball was able to bounce back and beat Jefferson at the rumble in the rock 51-41 in overtime. The girls won 62-87, but then East boys fell against Belvidere North, putting our stats at 7 and 4.
“I am really happy with the amount of improvement with the short amount of time, especially given how inexperienced we were coming into the season,” said Roy Sackmaster, head coach.
